Challa Bread

Bake 400 degrees for about 30 minutes

Ingredients:

2  1/2 c.  flour

3 Tbls. sugar

1/4 tsp. salt

1 pkg. yeast

1/4 c. margerine

1/2 c. hot water

2 eggs + 1 egg white

Directions:

In large mixing bowl , mix 1 c. flour, sugar, salt, and undissolved yeast.

Add: margerine and then gradually add hot water . Beat 2 minutes on medium speed, scrape bowl down.

Add:  1 more c. flour, 2 eggs, and 1 egg white mix well. This will make a thick batter.

Sir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough.

Turn out onto a floured surface and knead for 15 minutes or ( using a dough hook on mixer, mix for 10 minutes).

Roll dough into a ball ,place in a well greased large bowl. Turn dough ball upside down to coat with oil, turn back over  in bowl. Cover with a clean towel, let rise until double in bulk, this will take about 1 1/2 hours. Then punch down, divide into 3 pieces, form  each piece into a long strip  about 12 ”  in length. On a cookie sheet, place a piece of parchment paper. Braid the  3 strips of dough on parchment,  tuck ends of dough underneath  to hold together. Brush braid with ( 1 egg yolk and 1 tsp. cold water, mixed together).  When coated well with egg mixture . If easired you may top with poppy or sesame seeds.  Enjoy !
